Daily Algorithm

I am putting on my shoes. Actually, I am putting on one shoe after the other. (I have two feet. Luckily, I am not a centipede.) The problem starts when I have to decide if I put on one shoe after the other before tying the laces. Or should I put on one shoe and tie the laces before I put on the other shoe? The first version requires me to lift my foot twice, depending on the way of putting on shoes and tying laces. The second version spares me additional movements.
The day is full with conundrums like that. Need for good algorithms wherever I turn.
